terrorphoto.jpgLondon police launched on 25th of February a new advertising campaign. Posters and TV ads are urging Londoners to turn in people who might be taking pictures of CCTV cameras.

"Thousands of people take photos every day.

What if one of them seems odd ?

Terrorists use surveillance to help plan attacks, taking photos and making notes about security measures like the location of CCTV cameras. If you see someone doing that, we need to know.

Let experienced officers decide what action to take.

Other posters target households:

"you see hundreds of houses every day. What if one has unusual activities and seems suspicious"

as well as mobile phone users :

"Thousands of people have mobiles. What if someone with several seems suspicious?"

What's going on in London ? Is the Metropolitan police not busy enough ? did they become completely paranoiac ? or do they need some budget increase ?

Where is this so famous British phlegm ?

As a response, many people have already redesigned the posters to point out the absurdity of them. Some samples are available on BoingBoing.

myanmar.gifMyanmar is now nearly cute off from the Internet (at least for public access), as it seems clear that authorities want to crack down the outgoing flow of information regarding ongoing events.

How ever, Myanmar's Telecom officials blame a damaged submarine cable for the Internet breakdown.

Any idea which culprit they will point out regarding numerous smashed  cellphone and cameras ?

mcfly.jpgThree months after the United States successfully pressed the United Nations to impose strict sanctions on North Korea because of the country’s nuclear test, Bush administration officials allowed Ethiopia to complete a secret arms purchase from the North, in what appears to be a violation of the restrictions, according to senior American officials.

wwconflicts.pngI don't want to be perceived as a basic anti-american person, but if the guys they interview on this video are so called "sampling frame" of the average american people, they, and we, have serious problems as they may be totally unable to understand why less and less people like them (or rather the policy conducted by their elected government and what/who is really behind).

I wonder how come they have so little knowledge about geography, History and above all, what's going on these days around the world. They still have plenty good news papers such the New-York Times or the Washington Post which are far better than any TV channel and in particular Fox News.

Scary no ?

Last friday, thai B-list actress Chotiros "Amy" Suriyawong created controversy revealing her full length black evening gown, featuring a slit up to her hip and a 3-inch-wide gap that runs up her torso during  The Thailand National Film Awards.

46564.jpg

On February 14th, the controversy hit the English-language press with a column by Nation editor Tulsathit Taptim, who criticized the dress but really takes to task the hypocritical authorities and executives who have called for punishment (Thammasat University, which Chotiros attends and is by reports an excellent student has taken decision to punish the actress to 15 days of community services).

While Tulsathit Taptim titles "sexy dress exposed ugly truths about society's hypocrisy", I wonder if such big noise is not made to divert public's attention from more serious subjects such Suvarnabhumi airport debacle (cracks on runways, corruption allegations, flooding, etc..) or the Bang Na-Bang Pakong expressway scandal, among many others.

Indecency is not exclusively related to Indecent exposure.

dprk.gifUS commerce secretary Carlos Gutierrez is banning the export of Segways, iPods, and other luxury goods to North Korea in response to Kim Jong Il 's apparent nuclear test last month.

The action is line with UN Security Council Resolution 1718 imposing sanctions on North Korea. The US is banning exports of luxury goods to the country.

Oooohhhhh it's a very strong and scary threat no ? Who will check Kim at the border when back from shopping in China or Russia, US Customs ?
