Our two months self-drive safari in Botswana and Namibia is now over. We drove nearly 11’000 kms without any major incident and I shot about 6000 photos. After a first selection, 1700 remain and about 150 are now available online on a dedicated gallery.
Our trip went quite smoothly without any major incident. Indeed we got some visitors at night in our camps (Elephants, Hyena, Baboons and Lions) and we got some minor technical damages (the auto-focus of the Sigma lens 50-500mm gave up, a tyre exploded in Southern Namibia and our 350W power inverter did not go further than Maun).
As I’m leaving Thailand for Côte d’Ivoire, the traditional content of this blog will certainly change a bit and get an African perspective on new technologies. Nothing clearly defined yet, but for sure, moving from South-East Asia to Western Africa will have an impact.
In the meantime, enjoy the photos and feel free to drop questions and comments about our trip

The night will be short but Nomadcom.net is know running on the latest version of WordPress.
The installation was straight forward and one of the new WP feature which automatically check if an update of installed plugins is available is definitively quite an improvement.
I got slight problems when during activation of Automattic's Widget plugin (not needed anymore… RTFMF !) and, as usual, with the Tags' cloud.
There are however some minor issues with incompatible plugins but updates should be available shortly.
WordPress version 2.3.1 is available here

A warm and friendly greeting derived from the Dabawenyo word "dayaw" that means good, valuable, superior or beautiful. Such is "Kadayawan," a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living.
Photos of the today's parade have been now published on Flickr

More about Kadayawan.

Since few days now, iMinR is tracking what's going on this website.
This new service of “measurement of personalized audience” as its creator, Stéphane Guérin, indicates it on his Internet site. The iMinR statistics service makes possible to discover more about visitors of a site in general and, as from now on, this one in particular.
Among statistics provided on the free account version of iMinR we can find :
- Visitors (IP address)
- Visits (per hour, per day,)
- Pages viewed (url, title)Pages vues (url & titre)
- Geographical information (Country, Region, City)
- Web Origin (domain and url)
- Search Engine
- Query String
- Keywords
- Incoming and Outgoing points
- Global duration of the visit
- Time duration per page
- Click stream
- Frequent paths
- Client configuration(browser, operating system, resolution, language, etc..)
About the installation, well it's definitively too easy. You either have to add the provided line of code in your footer's page (also available for secured pages) or, if you are using WordPress, to install, activate and configure the iMinr plugin and that's it.
No update, no maintenance and training required. iMinR is adapted to sites using AJAX and the 100% javascript invisible (free account users are requested to add iMinR logo on their web site) marker works with any HTML pages (PHP, ASP, etc..).
Real time reports can be personalized according your needs and are accessible either on a web page; using a javascript function or simply from the iMinR web site.
Today the beta 2 version has been released but so far the interface is exclusively available in French. I have not asked, but the English version should follow no ?
To know more about, check the demonstration page.

ContentRobot has released earlier last week a WordPress plugin (requires WP 2.2.1) that would allow iPhone visitors to optimally view WordPress blogs. The iWPhone plugin comes with its own theme which will automatically reformats blog’s content for optimized viewing on Apple’s iPhone.
Feature List
- Formats your blog content for optimized viewing on the iPhone.
- Automatically detects the iPhone’s Safari browser and only displays the custom theme to iPhone visitors, other visitors get your standard theme.
- Simple iPhone-like theme with common interface elements that compliments the iPhone’s internal applications.
- Images larger then 300 pixels wide are automatically scaled down to fit the iPhone optimized width.
If you don't own an iPhone, you can review the reformated site using a small application called iPhoney but so far you need to have Mac OS X 10.4.7 (or later) and Safari installed on it as Windows version of iPhoney is not available yet.
Note: As I don't have a MAC nor an iPhone, feedback from iPhone owners about presentation my site would be highly appreciated

This year, started on Friday 13 (when the Sun entered into the sign of Aries), Maha Songkran which is traditionally the Thai New Year. It is also known as the "Water Festival" as people believes that water will wash away bad luck. Thais traditionally celebrate Songkran like this:
- On the eve of Songkran day, it's a Spring cleanup and people clean their house and burn all the refuse.
- Early on the first day of Songkran, the people both young and old in their new clothing go to the Wat or monastery belonging to their village or district to offer food to the monks there.
- In the afternoon of the same day there is bathing ceremony of the Buddha images and also of the abbot of the wat. After this begins the well-known "water throwing feast".
The bathing of images is done as ritualistic ceremony, but it is no other than a New Year's purification. Younger people will also on this day or the succeeding days go to pay their respect to and ask blessings from their elders and respected persons. They will pour scented water into the palms of the old people and present them with a towel and other bathing requisites.
Now, as far as I could experience it on my own, in Bangkok, the "water throwing feast" did not wait until afternoon to start. At 11h00 I was already soaked head to toes while moving in direction of Kao San road. In addition of water, chalk is also widely used to make "blessings".
