Radar Networks, is releasing a free Web-based tool, called Twine, that it hopes will change the way people organize their information.
Twine website is a place where you can share any kind of information and knowledge such emails, bookmarks, documents, RSS feeds, contacts, photos, videos, product info, data records, and collaborate around common interests, activities and goals with friends, colleagues etc.
Once Twine has some information, it starts to analyze it and automatically sort it into categories that include the people involved, concepts discussed, and places, organizations, and companies.
Twine uses the Semantic Web, natural language processing, and machine learning to make your information and relationships smarter.
It still look unclear how Twine could make a real difference about organizing and sharing information but apparently a public beta version of the site may emerge soon.
Another question, Twine will be able to compete with what Techcrunch calls "the Google lethal social weapon", the project Maka-Maka.
Twine register form is available here.
More about Twine: Technology Review, Read/Write web.

It is impressive to see the quantity of bad news that reached Microsoft's headquarters this week.
Motivation may not be at its highest level in Redmond.
- Only 60 millions licenses (sic!) of Windows Vista have been sold. It is rather low considering that includes OEM and Corporate agreements (companies getting Vista licenses as part of their contract, but with no short-term plan to deploy it).
- Yahoo announced the acquisition of Zimbra, an open source server and client software for messaging and collaboration (email, group calendaring, contacts, and web document management and authoring).
- Google welcomed "Presentation", a new addition to the Google Docs & Spreadsheets family which has now all elements to compete with MS Office.
- IBM released the beta version of Symphony, a web-based open source office suite, based on the open document format (ODF).
- International Standard Organization (ISO) rejected Microsoft Office 2007 file format, called Office Open XML (OOXML), to be recognized as an ISO standard. Critics said the format was flawed and laden with MS-specific features.
- SCO group, a Microsoft ally to seize parts of the Linux market, took step of filing for Chapter 11 protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Last but not least
Microsoft lost its appeal before the European Court of First Instance regarding 2004 European Commission act that found MS abusing of its near-monopoly position. Final Microsoft's bill in fines (689 millon USD) and penalties could reach about 2.8 billions USD.
Don't worry Bill, on Monday starts another week!

Adobe has released its latest version of Lightroom with embedded version of Camera Raw 4.2.
Among others, following RAW formats are now supported:
- Canon EOS 40D
- Fuji FinePix IS-1
- Olympus EVOLT E-510
- Panasonic DMC-FZ18
- Pentax K100D Super
- Sony Alpha 700
For these using computer with non-English operating system or Regional Settings there is a simple trick to make sure that Lightroom appears in English:
- Open your Lightroom installation folder (e.g C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.2) in Windows Explorer.
- Create a folder named e.g "Disable languages"
- Open the Resources folder and move all unused language folders (e.g "fr", "de", "jp") into your newly created "Disable Languages"
- Et Voilà!

After receiving an email from Kpjas, an Ipernity member, who informed me that he took a photo of mine to illustrate "50 Places To See Before You Die" selected by BBC viewers in 2003 in his blog, I reviewed the list and noticed that I have already visited more than 50% of these places that BBC viewers dream about (lucky me).
This list raised some interrogation to me about why these places have chosen instead of other famous ones ? I could not find any relevant explanations except perhaps a majority of places where the spoken language is (was) English (but it makes sense as enquiry took place in UK). One thing is sure, after reading names of these great location, you just feel to escape from your office, pack you stuff and go travel.
Personally I would definitively add some places to this list (Okavango delta, Yunnan mountains, Kalahari desert, Japan, etc..) and perhaps drop some but for sure, I'll not be able to keep it to only 50 locations.
BBC 2008 Viewers "Must See list" Africa La Digue, Seychelles
(visited) The Pyramids, Egypt (1993) Luxor, Egypt (1993) Abu Simbel, Egypt (1993) Masai Mara, Kenya (1993/2002) Victoria Falls, Zambia / Zimbabwe (1994) Cape Town, South Africa – (1994/1998)

Some pics are really crap, so good excuse to visit some of these places again

Since few days now, iMinR is tracking what's going on this website.
This new service of “measurement of personalized audience” as its creator, Stéphane Guérin, indicates it on his Internet site. The iMinR statistics service makes possible to discover more about visitors of a site in general and, as from now on, this one in particular.
Among statistics provided on the free account version of iMinR we can find :
- Visitors (IP address)
- Visits (per hour, per day,)
- Pages viewed (url, title)Pages vues (url & titre)
- Geographical information (Country, Region, City)
- Web Origin (domain and url)
- Search Engine
- Query String
- Keywords
- Incoming and Outgoing points
- Global duration of the visit
- Time duration per page
- Click stream
- Frequent paths
- Client configuration(browser, operating system, resolution, language, etc..)
About the installation, well it's definitively too easy. You either have to add the provided line of code in your footer's page (also available for secured pages) or, if you are using WordPress, to install, activate and configure the iMinr plugin and that's it.
No update, no maintenance and training required. iMinR is adapted to sites using AJAX and the 100% javascript invisible (free account users are requested to add iMinR logo on their web site) marker works with any HTML pages (PHP, ASP, etc..).
Real time reports can be personalized according your needs and are accessible either on a web page; using a javascript function or simply from the iMinR web site.
Today the beta 2 version has been released but so far the interface is exclusively available in French. I have not asked, but the English version should follow no ?
To know more about, check the demonstration page.

Not very well known is the non-french speaking world, Gaston Lagaffe has turned 50 on 28th of February. The office clerk started working for Spirou Magazine in 1957.
To celebrate this birthday, Mr Freddy Thielemans, mayor of Bruxelles, who looks like Mr De Mesmaeker, has decided to offer a day of free parameters over his the territory, paying respect to Gaston's battle again these "affreux mange-fric".

Last friday, thai B-list actress Chotiros "Amy" Suriyawong created controversy revealing her full length black evening gown, featuring a slit up to her hip and a 3-inch-wide gap that runs up her torso during The Thailand National Film Awards.
On February 14th, the controversy hit the English-language press with a column by Nation editor Tulsathit Taptim, who criticized the dress but really takes to task the hypocritical authorities and executives who have called for punishment (Thammasat University, which Chotiros attends and is by reports an excellent student has taken decision to punish the actress to 15 days of community services).
While Tulsathit Taptim titles "sexy dress exposed ugly truths about society's hypocrisy", I wonder if such big noise is not made to divert public's attention from more serious subjects such Suvarnabhumi airport debacle (cracks on runways, corruption allegations, flooding, etc..) or the Bang Na-Bang Pakong expressway scandal, among many others.
Indecency is not exclusively related to Indecent exposure.

In a country where discussions about how to cope with 4 differents national languages are on weekly agenda at the parliament, Swissinfo found a way to avoid such dilemma in a series of 15 seconds funny ads currently broadcasted on TV5 channel.
p.s this post is the 1st one with embedded video on this site. Thanks to Viper007bond and their great plugin.
